The Gospel According to John

4th Sunday of Lent

Once the sinner was blind to thee

As the sacred Scriptures foresee

Shall the prophet cometh of Galilee

Behold the Son of Man came to be

Blessed be the one I spoke to is He

Praise Jesus to open his eyes to see

Thus, the miracle of sight hence receive

The faithful, lift up your eyes to believe

Every Sunday is a Holiday

At Our Lady of Perpetual Help

Walking into church is like unwrapping a gift. It’s a gift that keeps on giving all year at every holiday and special occasion. It all starts at church – holidays, birthdays, and anniversary.

Our celebration begins with morning Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help – from Christmas to Easter with all our birthdays, wedding anniversaries and special occasions throughout the year. A special day just seems even more special when it starts with Mass and receiving the Blessed gift of the Holy Communion. Attending Sunday Mass is like unwrapping the gift of the Holy Eucharist.

On Sunday’s when my husband, myself, my twin sister and her husband all attend Sunday Mass together at OLPH it seems like a holiday. And attending Mass together has bonded us and made us closer. We attend Mass and spend the day together at Breakfast Buffets and Fairs. Every Sunday can be a holiday when you attend Sunday Mass.

On Sundays, the church is dressed in its Sunday’s best, as I envision the alter blissfully adorn with flowing drapes, graced by burst of floral colors, as the gold glisten off the gilded ornaments which appears to be kissed by the sunlight peeking from behind the multi-colored stain glass windows. How blessed we are to be welcome at the House of Lord divinely displayed by the glorious beauty of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
Every Sunday is a holiday as we all visit the House of God together. We all sing praising God - a song of prayer in harmony of parishioners rejoicing from our pews. We sing as one and voice passages…“We believe in one holy Catholic and apostolic Church…” As an apostolic Church… - ‘taken from the Apostles we all are Apostles of Jesus in His flock to follow the rule of God and spread the Good Word.

As the mass proceeds my faith grows stronger and I leave the church feeling better than I did before I entered. This is the day the Lord has created - His gift to all of us. Now my day has begun- it all starts at church.

I recall another visit when my husband, Robert, and I renewed our Wedding Vows on our 25th Anniversary. It was a simple ceremony within the Mass. My sister took our photo walking down the aisle. We joined Our Lady of Perpetual Help and came back to the Church.

When I was young living at home; my Dad always told me to go back to church - as if it was the answer. As I grew I learned Dad was right - the answer is there at Church.

The church welcomes everyone back. Their door is always open. Regardless of culture, creed, or class all are invited for a visit at the House of God. The Lord is divinely hospitality. Come home to the church. You can go home again, after all. Written by Susan Marie Davniero

Re: Pope Francis "One Earth, One Family"

Let’s honor Pope Francis words; "One Earth, one family" as the world’s family we share responsibility for the care of our home - the Earth. We are all related as one family. Catholics are in one family by our shared faith. No one is alone - we are family.

We must pray together for the Earth's future existence. We are brothers and sisters, all God’s children by our Father. Yet, our family acts as if the earth was ours to pollute and satisfy our needs foremost, without accountability to the Earth's environment. Humanity has become arrogant.

Global Warming is simply cause and effect cognizant to the cause and effect of our species habitation

and pollution. Nature cannot defend itself against the damage humanity creates.

Reportedly, reduction in greenhouse gases, fossil fuels, smoke emissions, pollutants are plans that had not really gone beyond the words, understanding humanity’s prosperity, progress and lifestyle. What steps shall be taken for reverting progress and forfeiting the modern conveniences enriching the lifestyle combustible fueled by greenhouse gases. Realistically, modern conveniences are unlikely surrendered anytime soon.

It is ironic that advance high-tech commerce, transportation, industry and prosperity which has gifted humanity prolonged life span is paid at the cost of a spirally downfall spin of the Earth’s doomed life. Thus, humanity’s greed is our mournful countenance.

That being said, I ask if the futuristic earth’s fate is doomed. Pope Francis sermon of faith has been heard – yet, with the wake up call we go back to sleep. Alas, the Pontiff Holy Pope Francis alarm may only prepare us against the eventuality of the end. Let us pray as one family for cohabitation with the environment to save the Earth and save ourselves.

Sincerely,

Susan and Robert Davniero

Q: As a Catholic, is it a sin to serve as a juror, and pass judgment on others? Scripture reads: "Judge not, lest you be judged" (Matthew 7:1). –

Susan Marie Davniero, Lindenhurst, NY, via godsquadquestion@aol.com)

A: It's time to open your Bible to Matthew 22:21: "Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's." (Also Mark 12:16-18 and Luke 20:25).

Juries belong to Caesar, my dear. Courts depend upon juries and juries depend upon you. Erving on a jury is your civic duty, which if you had certain occupational duties you might be able to pass on to others, but otherwise is your responsibility.

The reticence to judge others mentioned in Matthew has to do with humility, not justice. Juries are about justice, not humility. Do your duty if you can, and in your personal life, avoid being judgmental. If, however, you quote Matthew 7, my hunch is you will be quickly excused.

The Greatest Story
Published LI Catholic 2011

Dear Editor: The story started with the birth of Jesus. The Word of God became human and had a voice — divinity and humanity in one body. He was the Word of God.
For this reason we the faithful shall want to experience the whole story. The cross and empty tomb started with the blessed birth in a manger to the holy rebirth of resurrection from the empty tomb. It is all one story.
Thus, the birth of Jesus on Christmas to the resurrection of Easter is all one story — a story without end. The greatest story ever told.

Re: Father Anthony Trapani
Resignation at OLPH Lindenhurst

Farewell to Father Anthony Trapani leaving Our Lady of Perpetual Church in Lindenhurst in June 2012. We will miss Father Anthony. Apparently, alas “this drama of darkness” the good Father endured has led him to this resignation. We regret it has come to this.

I recall an OLPH Mass one morning recently when Father Anthony said at Mass - "God will decide how he wants to use us ... God doesn't ask for a resume or letter of reference." Perhaps he was speaking about himself at this crosswords of his ministry to "services in another part of the vineyard of this Diocese.” as the Bishop said.

I trust the good Father Anthony will continue to spread God’s word as he walks in faith on the road ahead - God’s way. This need not be an end but a beginning to a new chapter. Go with the Lord.

When the Our Lady of Perpetual Church Pastor changes we will change with him. Yet, alas, no one can really take the place of Father Anthony Trapani’s place. God Bless

Sincerely,

Susan and Robert Davniero

DO YOU BELIEVE??
By Susan Marie Davniero

It was the Lord’s recreation of a new day as the summer sun cast brilliance upon my husband Bob and I as we arrive at Our Lady of Perpetual Help for Sunday morning service. Sundays seem to have a spiritual halo around the day.
Entering the church is like unwrapping a gift. At Sunday service we are spiritually guided to confess our sins, forgive others, share the gift of communion, pray together and glorify God in song. We give thanks for our blessings.
Yet, it is the Gospel reading from the Book of Mathew 14.22 that Sunday that has awaken my faith. I have the Holy Spirit in me as I focus on listening to the reading. Surely it was not the first time I heard the miraculous Biblical Scripture whereas Jesus walks on the water.
However, this time seemed like the first time I understood the message. Given our faith we believe Jesus walks on the water and extends his hand to Peter to “Come…” to Him on the water. We understand the Apostle Peter is “One of little faith” and pleas to be saved. Jesus asks Peter; “Why do you doubt?”
The message I heard was that Blessed Jesus asks all of us to “Come” to him, to follow him, and to believe that we too can walk on the water. Who are we to judge Peter’s doubt? What would you do?
I take the Gospel reading of this Sunday Mass home with me. This Scripture opens conversation. I pose the question to my family; “If Jesus extended his hand to you asking you to come and walk on the water…Would you take His hand?” The replies are honest yet doubtful: “No I don’t think so…” “Maybe if I was an Apostle but not as just me” and my reply; “Because I am willing to drown for Jesus I would…”

Jesus asks us; “Why do you doubt?” Sisters and brothers we are all God’s children. We will rise when He calls our name. If you believe you can walk on water you will. Don’t think about it – believe it from the heart and soul. When you attend Sunday Service just don’t listen to the Gospel reading on Sunday – but live it! The Blessed Lord Jesus is telling us we can walk on water – Do you believe?

God Bless,

Susan Marie Davniero

“Come Learn of Me”

Suddenly it is September and it’s time for students to return to school.

At any age, in faith we are all students. In the home, school, or the house of God there is one teacher deity supreme; I speak of the Master Teacher, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Savior and Redeemer of all mankind. Jesus instructs us to follow him; “Come learn of me…”

We shall respond to His invitation, "Come, learn of Me" and begin the life eternal class as a student of God. Heaven will be our reward through Christ's school.

It is said that when the student is ready the teacher will appear. Are you ready to enroll for Jesus lessons of faith, hope and charity?  The assigned class book to study is the Holy Bible; where Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews, first saw Jesus of Nazareth as a “teacher from God”.

The Bible Scriptures foretells Jesus is addressed as “Teacher” twenty-nine more times in the Gospels, even enemies addressed him as “Teacher” (Matthew 22:16,24). The noun teacher and verb teach combined are used of Jesus some ninety times. Jesus’ teachings are documented by the Bible, divine power and uniquely authoritative; which begs for studious study - “Never a man so spoke” (John 7:46).

Jesus term lessons are a lifetime and beyond for eternity. Following Jesus is simply academic. Enroll today to be Jesus’ student.  By diligent study, training and passing grades to receive a diploma you will rise to a higher level of education as you enter the divine University of Heaven.  And the Master Professor is God.  “Come Learn of Me…”

Here I Am Song Lyrics

Here I am, Lord send me
All of my life, I make an offering,
Here I am, Lord send me
Somehow my story is a part of Your plan,
Here I am
When setbacks and failures, and upset plans
Test my faith and leave me with empty hands
Are You not the closest when it's hardest to stand
I know that You will finish what You began
And these broken parts You will redeem
Become the song that I can sing
Chorus
Overwhelmed by the thought of my weakness
And the fear that I'll fail You in the end
In this mess, I'm just one of the pieces,
I can't put this together but You can
Chorus
Here I Am, all my life an offering to You, to You
Somehow my story is a part of Your plan
Here I am

To Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church

Thank you Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church for Sunday’s Mass (May 30th) which commemorated the Memorial Day holiday weekend in honor of Veterans amid the Holy Mass.

The choir echoed in the church chambers with the music of all the military branches theme songs inviting veterans in the congregation of the respective service to stand up to impromptu applause. My husband, Robert, felt honored to stand up for the Army.

How proud the flock was of Monsieur Pastor Anthony Trapani when he spoke of his Navy war years as a Veteran Chaplin.

Our country’s patriotism was hailed as the Sunday service closed with the finale of the choir’s rendition of the renowned anthem “America the Beautiful.”

The church’s honorable presentation of such a patriotic display of faith was inspirational to remember God is with us during times of peace and war.  Perhaps one day wars will cease and there will be peace.  Until then we shall pray.

Memorial Day weekend was one of those times Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church remembered the Veterans together with the Sunday Mass. God Bless America.

Sincerely,

Susan and Robert Davniero

Letters to the Editor
Farewell to Pope Benedict XVI.

His stunning resignation sets the stage for the Vatican to hold a conclave to elect a new pope. In what could’ve been a sign from God, lightning struck the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica only hours after the pontiff’s announcement.

This need not be an end but rather, a beginning to a new chapter. I trust the pontiff will continue to spread God’s word as he walks in faith.

When the pope changes, we will change with him, yet no one can take the place of Benedict.   Susan Marie Davniero

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church

(Published - Lindenhurst Gazette, Pancakes in Heaven, Our Ladyof Perpetual Help Bulletin)
by Susan Marie Davniero

Easter came early this year – falling on last day of March. We felt a slight chill that awakened us in the morning air as my husband, Bob and I, briskly walked into the Church for an Easter visit.

On this holiday, faithful townspeople accompany us, in haste as if to arrive before “the show begins.” The sunshine brilliance is glorious as if the Lord Himself smiles upon us.

How heavenly the church is dressed for the holiday, thinking as I look toward the altar walking to our pew. The church’s altar is blissfully adorn with luxurious white drapes, graced by white lilies, as the gold glisten off the Holy gilded ornaments appears to be kissed by the sunlight through the multi-colored stain windows.

A respectful rule of silence is followed as we all rise to greet the congressional line of altar servers led by the Priest. The silence is broken by the soft hail of a parishioners baby cry from the back of the church.

I notice the Priest officiating at this morning Mass is the newly ordained Father John, adorn in a white vestment festive garment to serve the Lord, like the good shepherd leading his flock. Father John serves his master well as he captivates the congregation by his inspiring homily and worship.

Church is a place where singing the hymns loud is nearly as important as singing them right – as I join in. I try to sing better than last week as we all sing "Alleluia! Alleluia!"

As the mass proceeds my faith grows stronger and I leave the church feeling better than I did before I entered. The Lord is divinely hospitable. We had a Blessed Easter visit at the House of God.

My mind wanders back to another Easter visit at my parents’ home. I was young, barely 18, finding my own way. Alas, my way was leading me away from the church. I can still hear my Dad’s plea; “Go back to church…” as if it was an answer to all my youthful problems.

That was then, this is now. As I sit today at Church – I whisper, as if my beloved deceased Dad, Gerard Fischetti, can hear me; “Dad, I am back.” The answer is there. Dad was right.

The church welcomes everyone back. Their door is always open. Regardless of attire, wealth, or creed - all are invited for a visit at the House of God. Come home to the church. You can go home again, after all.

"I Can Only Imagine" Song

I can only imagine what it will be like, when I walk by Your side...
I can only imagine, what my eyes will see, when Your Face is before me!
I can only imagine. I can only imagine.
Surrounded by Your Glory, what will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you, Jesus? Or in awe of You, be still?
Will I stand in Your presence, or to my knees will I fall?
Will I sing 'Hallelujah!'? Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine! I can only imagine!

I can only imagine, when that day comes, when I find myself standing in the Son!
I can only imagine, when all I will do, is forever, forever worship You!
I can only imagine! I can only imagine!

Yeah! I can only imagine!

Yeah! I can only imagine!

I can only imagine! Yeah! I can only imagine!! Only imagine!!!
I can only imagine.

I can only imagine, when all I do is forever, forever worship You!
I can only imagine."

The Pope Francis Revolution

Published LI Catholic May issue

“Habemus Papam” We have a new Pope and since Pope Francis has become one of the most popular Popes in Papacy history.
Thus, Pope Francis the first Jesuit to be Pope; the Pontiff’s humility and divine simplistic theological belief echo in his unpretentious attire and lifestyle.

By way of the Holy Pontiff’s style to encompass simplicity, charity and goodwill he has captivated the hearts and souls of people worldwide, secular the atheist and religious alike.
It's the Pope Francis Revolution!

US CATHOLIC PUBLISHED
Welcome to the new Latin translation verses of the Catholic Mass. In keeping the faith the translation speaks the historic language of the original Roman Catholic Church.
Translation of the Mass is beyond definition of the biblical lessons to illuminate the stories behind the words. Perhaps the congregation will appreciate what the scriptures have to say if it is said in the historic language of their Church. Times change and we with them.
Through him the community of the faithful members of the church together shall be joined by the word of God beyond the language of the day. He shall be heard in the translation. Yet, alas, at a lost to understand, indifferent to the words, may translate to a loss of the faithful when Church members are most needed.
In my humble opinion, the motive of the new Mass translation will awaken the people. The proof moreover: the Bible is the literature of the Mass— the Word of God.
Perhaps the new verses will offer a new spiritual path at a time that so urgently needs one. Changing the course will test us if we’re paying attention. Church members are talking. We will be awaken to spread the good word. Faith isn’t just for Sunday, after all. Sometimes change is good.

My Opinion on Dress Code for Church
I thought I would “address” the Dress Code for Church attendance. Apparently it seems the faithful to be dressing down for service – which is “a fashion don’t.”
In my opinion, on Sunday we are visiting the House of God. The Lord is divinely hospitability welcoming all. Yet, as any invited quest we should dress the part with respect for the sacred occasion of Sunday’s Mass.
Sometimes what one wears have nothing to do with clothes at all. Rather it has everything to do with the person in the mirror. Some people may perceive a dress code as being judged by how they look and not by who they are inside. Mirror, mirror on the wall – doesn’t God love us all just the way we are.
That being said, Pastors may want to “address” the dress code situation by enlightening the congregation that we are in the House of God and should dress accordingly to respect our Divine Host. Perhaps by inviting the faithful to visit God’s House they would dress in their Sunday best.

Farewell to Pope Benedict in his stunning resignation as he stepped down in February as pope at the crossroads of his ministry.

Perhaps as a sign from God, lightning struck the dome of St. Peter's Basilica only hours after the pontiff announced his resignation.

This need not be an end but a beginning to a new chapter. We trust Benedict will continue to spread God's word as he walks in faith on the road.

When the pope changes, we all change with him; yet, alas, no one can really take the place of Pope Benedict.

Dear Susan and Robert,

Thank you for your suggestions. It is great that parishioners such as yourselves are interested enough in the life of our parish that you take the time to reflect on things and offer suggestions. I will certainly consider them seriously and bring them to the various groups that advise me, such as the Pastoral Staff and the Liturgy Committee, for their input. Take care.

 FindingJesus

It’s the Christmas season
There is no rhyme or reason
Advent’s fourth Sunday
It happened on that day

Church Bambinelli Blessing
Nativity manger of Baby Jesus
Bring to mass from your Nativity
Baby Jesus of divinity

Endless searching no avail
To find Baby Jesus failed
Upon awakening that day
The Holy Spirit led the way

Compelled to search again
A closet clutter within
Suddenly on the floor there
Baby Jesus in manager appeared

At church the people amass
Before the alter at the Mass
The Priest bless the Holy figurines
It felt so peaceful and serene

It was Advent’s fourth Sunday
When I found Jesus that day

 Finding Jesus

During the Christmas season,I want to share how I found Jesus one Sunday morning.

I desired to participate in the Italian Catholic tradition of the Bambinelli Blessing of Baby Jesus figure from our home Nativity. I recalled of my parents Nativity displayed every Christmas at home when I was growing up.

After their passing, I took the Holy figure Baby Jesus in the manager home with me. Thinking how special a Bambinelli Blessing would be, I longed to bring it to Mass on the fourth Sunday of Advent, yet could not locate its place. Alas, after endless searching I could not remember where I stored it.

The morning of the fourth Sunday of Advent, December 20, I awoke to find myself walking to my husband’s bedroom closet compelled to search one more time before Mass. Suddenly from clearing the clutter of shoe boxes and wrapping paper on the bottom of the floor appeared Baby Jesus in His manager from my parent’s Navity! Just in time for Mass.

I felt blessed standing with others before the altar during December 20th Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help for the Bambinelli Blessing of Baby Jesus from my parents Nativity.

I was awakened that Sunday morning when I found Jesus for Christmas.

Sharing my song story - One morning I had a rash on my leg that was not clearing up. This song came on radio WGSS FM - 89.3 Chapel of Hope Ministry. As I sang along I believed I was blessed "Even if the Healing Doesn't Come".  Yet, during the day my healing came. My rash disappeared. I am cured because I believe.

When I was in my teens growing up at home in Massapequa with Dad and Mom, My dad, Gerard Fischetti, always told me “Go back to church…”

Back when I was growing up at home I was finding my own way. Alas, my way was leading me away from the church. I can still hear my Dad's plea; “Go back to church” as if it was an answer to all my teenage problems.

That was then this is now. Today when I attend Sunday mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Lindenhurst with my husband Bob my faith grows stronger and I leave the church feeling better than I did before I entered.

At Church singing a hymn loud is nearly as important as singing in tune as I join in. I try to sing better than last week as we all sing "Alleluia! Alleluia!" The Lord is divinely hospitable. We had a blessed time at the House of God.

As I sit at church my mind wanders back to another time at my parent's home when I was growing up. I whisper, as if my beloved deceased Dad, Gerard Fischetti, can hear me; "Dad, I am back." The answer is here. Dad was right.

The church welcomes everyone back. The door is always open. Regardless of attire, wealth, or creed - all are invited to visit the House of God. Come home to the church. You will find your answers there. My Dad was right after all.

You can go home again. Sometimes Fathers know best

Letters to the Editor
All one in Holy Communion

We are all at Mass together. You are not alone in the spiritual sacrament of Holy Communion that is shared by all during Mass as we rejoice singing the communion hymn. Let us all join in the celebration. Look around at all the parishioners alongside you. As Catholic faithful, we draw closer (“That they may be one” John 17.21).
We are the faithful who believe the bread (the host) and wine (the cup) are the body and blood of Jesus. We break bread and drink wine together as one Communion of love of Jesus. “When we eat this bread and drink this wine, we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come again...”

We gather in church as the blessed apostles gathered at the Last Supper to break bread together. There is a place setting for all at the Lord’s table to serve all. No one is ever alone at Communion. After all, there were 12 of Jesus’ apostles at the Last Supper.
The holy sacrament Communion Host is like unwrapping a gift. The rite of communion is the rite of passage until our everlasting communion in heaven together.

Jesus You will be Lifted High Song

Sin and its ways grow old
All of my heart turns to stone
And I'm left with no strength to arise
how you need to be lifted high

Sin and its ways lead to pain
Left here with hurt and with shame
So no longer will I leave your side
Jesus, you'll be lifted high

You'll be lifted high
You'll be lifted high
You'll be lifted high in my life
Oh God -And I fall to my knees
So it's you that they see
Not I - Jesus you'll be lifted high

And even now that I'm inside your hands
Help me not to grow prideful again
Don't let me forsake sacrifice
Jesus you'll be lifted high

And if I'm blessed with the riches of kings
How could I ever think that it was me
For you brought me from darkness to light
Jesus, you'll be lifted high

You'll be lifted high
You'll be lifted high
You'll be lifted high in my life
Oh God -And I fall to my knees
So it's you that they see
Not I - Jesus, you'll be lifted high

Oh Jesus, you'll be lifted high
Oh you'll be lifted high
And I fall to my knees
So it's you that they see

AT OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP
I FOUND ST. CATHERINE LABOURE
MIRACULOUS BLESSED MARY MEDAL KEYCHAIN
St Catherine Labouré St Catherine Labouré was born on the 2nd of May 1806 at Fainles-Moutiers, a picturesque village of Burgundy, France. She was the ninth child in a happy family of eleven. God made known the choice of this soul by marking her at an early age with the seal of suffering, for when she was only nine years old she lost her mother.
Saint Catherine Labouré responded to the divine call by entering the Community of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in Paris. Here, during the first months of her novitiate, she was favored with a number of apparitions of the Blessed Virgin, who confided to her the mission of having the Miraculous Medal made.
Until shortly before her death Saint Catherine kept a strict silence concerning these apparitions, speaking of them only to her confessor, according to the instructions of Our Lady.
During 46 years Saint Catherine witnessed the wonders and miracles wrought through the Medal. During all this time, carefully guarding her secret of the apparitions, she humbly performed her commonplace duties, devoting herself especially to the care of the infirmed men of Enghien, a suburb of Paris. For this she is called the patroness of seniors.
St Catherine LabouréSt Catherine Labouré On the 31st of December 1876, Saint Catherine left this earth for heaven, to contemplate there her Immaculate Queen whose love and beauty had captured her heart on earth.

Her body was exhumed 57 years later and found in perfect condition. Even death respected her who had enjoyed the extraordinary privilege of resting her hands on the knees of the Blessed Virgin for more than two hours during one of the apparitions. Saint Catherine was canonized by Pope Pius XII on July 27, 1947.

The simplicity of Saint Catherine's life endears her to everyone. She became a saint by doing her commonplace duties well, for God. This "Saint of Ordinary People" has the secret of sanctity for us all.

How St. Catherine Prayed

St Catherine LabouréSt Catherine Labouré When I go to the Chapel I place myself before the good God and I say to Him:

'Lord, here I am, give me what You will.' If He gives me something, I am very pleased and I thank Him. If He gives me nothing, I still thank Him because I do not deserve anything. And then again, I tell Him all that passes through my mind; I recount my pains and my joys and ... I listen. If you listen to Him, He will speak to you also, because with the good God it is necessary to speak and to listen. He will always speak to you if you go to Him simply and sincerely.

My View - God’s Love Letters
The Church’s Gospel Epistle Letters are like “God's Love Letters” to us all.
When my husband Bob and I attend Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church Sunday Service, I always felt close to the Gospel Letters Readings narration because I always like to write and exchange letters.

Letter writing to friends and family always held a special place in my life. What separated my husband, Bob, when we dated from the rest was that he wrote me love letters. No boyfriend ever did that before. And I did not tell him I like letter writing exchange. But he knew how to reach me.

Today the church is drawing me closer with the Gospel readings Epistle letters - God knows how to reach me with God's love letters!

In my feelings, the Holy Gospel Epistle Letters Reading are like “God's Love Letters” to us all.

Sisters - Nuns of Our Lady Grace Church

THE LAST GOOD WORD

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Blessed Nuns of Our Lady Grace Church for hosting a cordial social gathering at their sacred monastery for parishioners to attend on Saint Joseph’s Day.

After we witness the sanctimonious Sister’s Renewal of Vows Ceremony in the parish the parishioners were invited to meet with the Nuns in their home. Apparently St. Joseph’s Day social is an annual notable habit. We were privilege to be among the faithful attendees that day.

My twin sister and I were honored to visit with the devout sisterhood of nuns. We were in good company. The revered clergy also attended; Father Vincent, Father Gil and Father Eugene sharing our daily bread.

The clergy of pious Fathers and holy Nuns are all gracious and welcoming extending a kind word, a warm handshake or spiritual support and counsel. Our Lady of Grace church clergy share their divine vision to tune into the music of your soul.  They know our deep spiritual need and enable us to draw on our resources of grace. It’s all about worship after all.

We felt very welcome by the sacred Sister’s invite. Sharing the day like St. Joseph’s Day reminds me that every day is a day of faith and to spread the good word.  Our Lady of Grace church shows us the way to move over to make place for God in our everyday life. Essentially, religion isn’t just for Sunday.

Keep Christmas Every Day
(Published LI Catholic Mag)
Let’s keep Christmas every day…peace; love and charity of the holiday season are needed to be near us all year long. Why can’t people always act like its Christmas? After all, we are all God’s children in His family. It can feel like Christmas every day celebrating and glorifying the birth of Jesus. Perhaps, we shall live in harmony reaching out to others in need and loving thy neighbor. We might aim to leave the world better than how we found it.

Missing the joyful cheer and worship of Christmas songs from the holiday season I tune to spiritual music on the radio that reminds me of the holiday songs. It feels like Christmas every Day when I listen to spiritual gospel music heard on radio stations such as Family Radio or Calvary Chapel of Hope WGSS-FM.

Let's keep Christmas all year long. If anyone is missing Christmas, you can find it at Church. Walking into the church, is like unwrapping a Christmas gift that lasts all year. It's Christmas every day at Church singing gospel songs in worship and praise of our Father. We are family. Come home to the Church. You can go home after all.

May 1 - St. Joseph Day - For the Worker
Apparently in response to the “May Day” celebrations for workers sponsored by Communists, Pius XII instituted the feast of St. Joseph the Worker in 1955. But the relationship between Joseph and the cause of workers has a much longer history.
In a constantly necessary effort to keep Jesus from being removed from ordinary human life, the Church has from the beginning emphasized Jesus was a carpenter, in the ordinary circumstances of someone who is  obliged to work for his living.”

President kept faith on 9/11:  By way of being politically correct at New York City’s 9/11 Memorial service, separation of State and Church prevailed, as religious clergy were banned from speaking. Alas, God was not invited.

However, President Obama rose to the occasion at the podium to recite biblical Psalm 46 in his speech; “God is our refuge …” Apparently, God accompanied President Obama at his quest to shine God’s grace from Ground Zero.

We kept the faith on 9/11 in New York City, after all.

Acts of Kindness

I was inspired by the Blessed Palms I received on Palm Sunday at Church Mass to pattern and construct 1-2” Palm Crosses adhesive on clear plastic.

I am able to give the Palm Crosses to friends, family, strangers and people I meet along the way. My handmade crosses seem to bring a smile to the receiver’s faces.

People tell me the special places they’ll keep their cross; “In my car, my wallet, beside my grandmother’s photo (she just passed), on my work desk, in my trunk delivering, here in my pocket, in my Bible, and in the sky when I fly (God is your co-pilot.)
This is just my own small way to spread the good word. No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.    Susan Marie Davniero

 Where do Palms come from?

The distribution of palm trees is pretty much cosmopolitan; that is to say palm trees can be found growing in most areas of the world with the exception of the Arctic regions.

Most palms are adapted to a particular environment, so you may find the Date Palm (for example) growing in extremely arid regions (high temperature, low rainfall, low humidity, blowing sand) to palms that are at home in tropical jungles with high rainfall, high humidity and protection from the wind (such as Raphis). Then there are a host of palms that fall in between (the two extremes).

Hawaii, Australia, Southern California, and South Florida (common places for one to grow) in the USA

OLPH “The Little White Book” – Relections on the Rescurrection

I want to thank Our Lady of Perpetual Help church for offering parishioners the “The Little White Book” - affording parishioners six-minute Reflections on the Resurrection Narrative according to Matthew.

To share and spread the good word I left one of The Little White Book at work in the ladies lounge. Yet, the plain white cover book laid there remaining unnoticed. However, when I folded the white jacket to reveal the title page “The Little White Book” someone quickly took it yesterday, April 21; which is coincidently the first day of the Reflections readings.

Mark 16:15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation

That someone, a young woman at work, approach me to thank me; “I took the Little White Book you left in the lounge…” She became excited telling me about her plans to use it; “The reflections actually start today – the day I took it! It’s only six minutes…I can give six minutes a day…I’ll do this. Thank you.”

I suggest imprinting the title, The Little White Book Reflections onto the plain white cover jacket to promote the contexts. Note - it was not until the title page was disclose did someone notice the book and was able to appreciate the value of the book’s contents.

Thus, the good word was not heard, silenced by the cover’s anonymity. Sometimes you need to be seen to be heard. You can’t always tell a book by its cover, after all.

NOVEMBER MINISTRY OF PRAISE
ONE THANKSGIVING DAY
November 3, 2013

One Thanksgiving Day my husband, Bob, and I volunteered at a local Church charitable Thanksgiving Dinner for the needy in the community. We joined with the other volunteers preparing Thanksgiving dinner. Far from being a quiet room, the soup kitchen is busy with volunteers preparing the turkey and trimmings. The aroma of turkey baking pervades the air, as we all get to work. We’re handed aprons and instructed to join in the line to pack meals-on-wheels delivered to shut-ins.
The door is open as the guests arrive. All are welcome. Bob and I are now serving to the guests arriving to sit down and eat their Thanksgiving Meal at the party. We stand at a table with donations of platters of turkey, jams, vegetables and cranberry jelly. I smile as I dish out generous portions. The guests are remarkably polite thanking us for their meal. I was taken aback by the children with their parents. I just didn’t think there would be children.
After dinner is served we sit among the guests and mingle. I talked with a guest who lost his job, unable to find work, sitting alongside a mother who brought her specialty, stuffed mushrooms, to share with others. Her eyes glisten as she tells me about her special recipe. At another table sat a young military son in the Marines (with the regulatory military crew cut), who came with his single mother. She announces to me how proud she is of him and how her family comes every year. A kind hearted gentleman, dressed in worn jeans and red plaid shirt looking in need of a shave and haircut, makes it known to me he came to eat with someone. “Otherwise I would be alone in my room,” he said.
This one Thanksgiving Day volunteers surpassed the usually family Thanksgiving tradition at home. The day spent as volunteers extends beyond tradition reaching out, to share our daily bread with our neighbors across town. We are all one family at God’s table. Let us remember to pray, giving thanks for God’s blessings and to share with others. Share and share alike. This one Thanksgiving Day as volunteers was a day we were truly thankful for.
God Bless,

Also, because of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church’s spiritual teachings of the solemn worship during Lent and barren church alter; I was inspired to post a constructed Palm (Crucifix) Cross on my front door at our home.

Finding Jesus

It’s the Christmas season
There is no rhyme or reason
Advent’s fourth Sunday
It happened on that day
 Church Bambinelli Blessing
Nativity manger of Baby Jesus
Bring to mass from your Nativity
Baby Jesus of divinity
Endless searching no avail
To find Baby Jesus failed
Upon awakening that day
The Holy Spirit led the way
Compelled to search again
A closet clutter within
Suddenly on the floor there
Baby Jesus in manager appeared
At church the people amass
Before the alter at the Mass
The Priest bless the Holy figurines
It felt so peaceful and serene
It was Advent’s fourth Sunday
When I found Jesus that day

Finding Jesus

During the Christmas season, I want to share how I found Jesus one Sunday morning.

Alas, after endles ssearching  I could not remember where I stored it.

Awakening that Sunday morning I found Jesus for Christmas.

 Christmas gift of sainthood
Lindenhurst, L.I.: Pope Francis gave us all a Christmas gift to be unwrapped the first week of September next year, on the anniversary of Mother Teresa’s death. The Vatican announced Francis has proclaimed a decree attributing a second miracle to Mother Teresa, clearing the way for her canonization as St. Teresa. It’s the season for miracles after all. Susan and Robert Davniero

TAPESTRY OF FAITH

by Susan Marie Davniero

Tapestry of faith glory

Weaves pattern of life story

Divinely woven by God’s hands

That only He shall understand

Paragon in shades of glorious hue

From glistening gold to silver blue

When the life story comes to end

Aging colors fade and suspend

Alas, the unraveling will begin

and it’s only just wool again
